Seeing the need for furthering discussion and relations between the public and private sectors, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Air Force Institute of Technology set an ambitious goal of creating a symposium focused on the ecosystem of innovation surrounding additive manufacturing in the Dayton region.

The two-day event included a 40-company trade show, keynote speakers from the United States Air Force and breakout sessions covering emerging technology, workforce development, and materials used throughout additive manufacturing in the aerospace and defense sector.

It was important to the Air Force to spark conversation between the public and private sectors. Private sector companies were invited to showcase their latest innovations and discover the latest innovations from AFIT. By bringing together top minds in both sectors, the DoD could amplify their efforts to benefit warfighters nationwide.

A Symposium On A Deadline

Working on an aggressive timeline of 60 days, Wilderness Agency worked with AFIT to carry the idea from discussion through to conception, planning, and execution. Wilderness Agency handled the logistics for The Digital Engineering and Manufacturing Environment Symposium on Oct. 30-31.

Key factors to making the symposium a success included finding an appropriate venue, creating a unique brand, and gathering the right exhibitors to populate the tradeshow floor. The Air Force had earmarked a few companies and organizations they wanted there, but relied on Wilderness Agency to invite industry leaders and local producers to show how far the Dayton region has come in the world of additive manufacturing.

Wilderness Agency was able to work with AFIT to weave a meaningful symposium that generated positive feedback for AFIT and positioned the school to be a thought leader for industry in both the Dayton region and nationally.

The planning event team from Wilderness Agency handled all aspects of the event, ensuring every aspect of the event was taken care of and all arrangements were in place. From speaker relations to multimedia, the team coordinated with the technical and logistical staff, allowing the speakers to focus on their presentations and attendees to focus on forming partnerships and starting meaningful conversations.

“This symposium was a catalyst for many new partnerships within the defense sector that could greatly benefit the entire region.”
